Thursday (creative title, I know!)

This morning I was so excited to hit the gym, I woke up wide awake 10 minutes before my alarm went off. I was at the gym early, and ran 2 miles in 20 minutes on the elliptical. After that was arm day - triceps pushdowns and triceps overhead pulls, then reverse curls and standing curls. I went up between five and ten pounds on every exercise. I think I can go even higher, though the third set for three of the four exercises was *tough*. Which is good. :)

To respond to yesterday's skip I went for a frozen walk/jog around the 'hood. I don't know how far it was - probably around 1.5 to 2 miles. I could probably drive it and watch the odometer, though in truth I don't much care. I did what I had to do, and that's what matters.

Roder - I almost commented in your blog yesterday - but refrained because I wasn't sure if it would be encouraging - or discouraging- to you since I don't know you that well..but after your post today...

I think that you have to approach this new life style with grace. By that - I mean you have to give yourself grace. It's a lifestyle change - and while today is important - you have to live your life as well.

For me - I commit to 5 hours a week of exercise. Some weeks - I do more - but my minimum is 5 hours and for now it's all at the gym since it's winter time. This allows me to both reach my goal of exercise and gives me flexibility (I'm not committed to going to the gym EVERYday for my workout - which is pretty inflexible).

Some people need that daily routine to make it work - but I have found in past failed attempts - that having too rigid of a schedule was a set-up for failure..and once I failed it was a slippery slope.

We build our own wagon - with our own goals and expectations - and we are bound to fall off the wagon at some point. How far of a climb is to get back on the wagon? I think it depends on how high you build it.

You did what you had to do - but you are still focused. I love your optimism! Keep on keepin' on!

Oh, I totally agree. I don't really get too worried if I have a miss or a skip or a pizza. Truth is, life is fluid and I can't control everything. And more to the point - I don't want to. I enjoy seeing where the day takes me.

At the same time, because of Xmas and the New Year and now yesterday's miss, I haven't had 5 days in a row at the gym in 3 weeks. Not good. So I'm doing what I must to put a bit of enforcement back on my life's main focus, which is getting back down in size so that I can *have* a life. Or more specifically, have a life I want.

You did something yesterday and that is good. That makes building a pattern of skipping impossible. Great job!

And oh how I identify with what you wrote there. I have to be tough on myself and make exercise something I HAVE to do and not slack off because I do want to have the life I want - merely existing is just not cutting it anymore.

There is a great website where you can click in your route on a map and it spits out all kinds of info - including how far you walked. I love it and track my walks with this everytime.

www.mapmyrun.com

just type in your city and then click in like a googlemap to zero in on you hood.

Kudos to you for going out on a walk in to the freezing cold.

You were scared of me kicking your ass again, weren't you? ;)

Kimberly emphasized the paragraph that I can relate to also...not just living but living the life I want.
I really want you to get 'there' Roder! You seem like a very likeable, sincere, funny guy (who won't smile in pics but we'll see my friend, we'll see) and I wish you all the very best in this journey to achieve the life you want. Sincerely.

I'm not an elliptical person, but 2 miles in 20 minutes sounds pretty impressive to me! It's great, too, that you have a routine (arm day). I so need to get back into it.

Doesn't it feel good when you wake up raring to go? It sounds like you had a great workout day.
